When Jill Stefanovich and Jenesse Evertson decided to buy Narnia Children’s Books in Richmond’s Museum District, the deal came together quickly.
“We’d always wanted to do something in business together,” Stefanovich said. “Jenesse was living in London at the time, so we did the deal in 10 days over the phone.”
Kelly Kyle, who opened the store in 1984 and moved it from Carytown to Kensington Avenue in 2002, was ready to retire in the fall of 2010 and was going to close the store if a buyer did not emerge.
Stefanovich and Evertson decided they couldn’t bear to see a shop they often frequented — both with and without their kids — disappear from the community. They became the new owners on Nov. 1, 2010 and renamed the shop bbgb. The initials mean something different to each owner, and often to each customer.
