On Thursday, March 11th volunteers from Dominion Payroll’s Richmond headquarters headed out to the Richmond Raceway to assist with the ongoing effort to vaccinate members of our community against COVID-19. From 7 am until 5 pm, over forty members of the Dominion Payroll team helped the Virginia National Guard and the local health department with a variety of tasks including data entry, registration, and mobility assistance.
On the day of this volunteer event, many seniors aged 75 and up came out to receive their second and final vaccine shot. “I so enjoyed witnessing the ‘wiser’ generation so bravely and willingly walk, roll, and saunter in for their dose of future freedom!” said 401k Specialist Amy Johns. “They were most excited about being able to see their loved ones face-to-face again.”
It was hard not to be in a good mood with some of the first seventy–degree weather of the season, brilliant blue skies over head, and the palpable sense that this effort was helping bring a close to a year of uncertainty and isolation. “Put simply,” Client Services Supervisor Tatjana Cervenka said, “this was the best and most rewarding volunteer experience I’ve ever had.”
Dominion Payroll has long been a champion of incorporating volunteerism and philanthropy into its company culture – even offering employees 16 hours of community paid time off so that they can participate in events like the vaccination drive. “Navigating the safety concerns surrounding volunteer events has been very difficult this past year,” said Director of Community Engagement Kevin Wilson. “Seeing how safely and smoothly the Raceway vaccination operation was being managed was a tremendous breath of fresh air.”
All told, Dominion Payroll employees helped get over 2,300 shots administered on March 11th.
