Richmond, VA, March 31, 2017–Dominion Payroll today announced its title sponsorship agreement for the SpeakUp5k race by the Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation. The race is the signature event of the CKG Foundation, whose mission is to promote awareness of teenage depression and anxiety.
“This means so much to us as a company and to me as a person. I couldn’t be prouder of the CKG Foundation, or of Dominion Payroll for choosing to sponsor this important event that helps so many teens struggling with depression,” said David Gallagher, CEO. “This is a natural fit for us as a company, and I’m touched and grateful for all of our employees’ support on this. This is a great organization, truly doing amazing things in the community. They are literally saving lives, and inspiring people all over the world.”
David Fratkin, president, said, “This is a perfect way for all of us here at Dominion Payroll to give back to the community. We think of ourselves as a family, and of the Richmond region as our extended family, so any time we can affect positive change, especially on this scale, we’re all for it.”
The 5K (3.1 mile) walk/run race will take place on September 9, 2017 at 9 a.m. in Richmond, Virginia’s historic Byrd Park. There will be food and vendors, in addition to a wellness event. This is the fourth year of the race, having been first run in 2014 with 3,500 participants. Since then, the SpeakUp5k has expanded across America with races in San Diego, Tampa, and Boone, North Carolina, and with affiliated race teams all over the world, most recently in Roth, Germany.
“This is the perfect partnership for us,” said Grace Gallagher, executive director of the CKG Foundation. “Dominion Payroll has deep roots in the Richmond community, so it made perfect sense to partner with them in this event that ultimately helps so many teens in the region. We couldn’t be more pleased to take our relationship with them to this next level.”
About the Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation
The Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation works to cultivate awareness and understanding of teen anxiety and depression through partnerships with local schools and mental health professionals to implement prevention-based programs and curriculum to provide education and initiate conversation amongst teens regarding depression and anxiety.
The Foundation was formed in honor of Cameron K. Gallagher, who passed away as she crossed the finish line of the Shamrock Half Marathon in Virginia Beach in 2014. Cameron suffered from depression and anxiety and had envisioned the SpeakUp5k as a way to draw attention to those issues and let teens like herself know that it was okay to “speak up” about their personal battles.
