SpeakUp5k Tampa 2022
This Dominion Payroll SpeakUp5k Tampa Bay was held this past Saturday, January 22nd, 2022. Despite a “Florida” chilly and damp morning, we had several hundred participants join in on the fun at Gadsden Park, in Tampa.
This was the 4th running of the signature event hosted by the Cameron K Gallagher Foundation and the local SpeakUp5k Student Ambassadors. These 18 ambassadors represent 10 area middle and high schools throughout the Tampa Bay region. With their hard work of planning, raising money, marketing and recruiting participants and volunteers the day went off without a hitch!
The morning commenced with a welcome message, and a reminder of the purpose of the SpeakUp5k which is to raise awareness for teens struggling with mental health, anxiety, and depression.
The course was lined with a bubble and snowmaking station, 3 separate and LOUD cheers squads (made up of the local YMCA teen LEADERS groups), the always fun Gasparilla Music Festival music tent, and of course, the serene yet impactful “Quote Alley”.
“We had a lot of first-time participants and volunteers this year. The overwhelming feedback I have received is how incredibly impressed all were by the number of teens supporting and managing this event and just how fun it was” says Denny Gallagher, SpeakUp5k Tampa Bay lead and Cameron Gallagher’s uncle.
The money raised through sponsorships and event participants goes to the CKG Foundation with a portion going to local Tampa area organizations that focus exclusively on mental wellbeing of teens and young adults.
