At Dominion Payroll, we take great pride in our people, and they don’t come any finer than Mauri Whitehurst! It is with a great deal of gratitude for her service that we announce – after 12 years with Dominion Payroll – Mauri Whitehurst’s retirement. Sadly for us, Friday, June 26th will be her last day.
Anyone who has had the privilege of working with Mauri knows what an amazing teammate she is. She is immensely talented in everything financial from payroll to loans, tax credits to 401k. One can always count on Mauri to come up with a solution. She is a tireless, hard worker who is honest, efficient, and smart. More importantly, Mauri is a wonderful friend, the kind you only get a handful of. She is thoughtful, considerate, loyal, and funny.
“Mauri has been an integral part of our organization since the day she entered,” says CEO David Gallagher. “She helped us move to the next level and she took care of us along the way. When she joined, Dave and I were a small business trying to build something special and Mauri was the elixir to our success. She handled almost every role in our business without complaining and she helped reinforce the amazing culture that Dominion Payroll now has.”
When Mauri started at Dominion Payroll in 2008, we had 10 employees. She came to us from Cadmus Communications where she had been Director of Finance for 18 years. Mauri started with DP as a Sales associate, then led the Operations department as Manager before becoming Chief Financial Officer in 2012. Since the time Mauri has been with the company, Dominion Payroll has grown to five offices, with over 165 employees and revenue growth of 809%!
“Mauri has been invaluable to Dominion Payroll over the past 14 years,” states President David Fratkin. “Her natural drive to provide exceptional customer service has been a hallmark within our organization and she will leave her mark on the way we interact with our clients. She was also critical in her dedication to developing, nurturing, and empowering the employees in her organization and throughout Dominion Payroll.”
Originally from El Paso, Texas, Mauri met her husband Bo while working in Houston and shortly thereafter returned to Virginia (Bo’s home state) to start a family. Mauri has two sons, Matt and Sam, who, along with Bo, are proud Virginia Tech alumni. Mauri and Bo are season ticket holders and attend every Tech home game to proudly cheer on the Hokies.
“Mauri is our friend and we will miss her presence,” shares Gallagher. “She took care of her employees, developing a strong team. She deserves her well-earned retirement. We are so appreciative of all that you did for us Mauri, personally and professionally.”
We are all going to miss Mauri but are thrilled for her as she starts her next chapter. First up is an exciting adventure with Bo and friends across the great American West to multiple national parks including Canyonlands and Arches.
