At the beginning of June, we began our third summer welcoming a group of rising college juniors and seniors to join our company for a 4-week intensive internship founded on the principles of Design Thinking and Project-Based Learning. After the first week of introducing Dominion Payroll to our interns, they were asked to specialize in a department and work with that department’s Director/Manager on a relevant “problem” being experienced for the remaining 3 weeks of their time with us. Interns are then expected to research, interview, and look into the problem with fresh eyes. From their research, they are asked to come up with recommendations on how the problem can be addressed. At the end of the internship, each intern presents their findings and recommendations to our Executive Team and President/CEO of the company. While working through their projects, our interns are also spending time with our HR team participating in mock interviews, resume deep dives, and writing cover letters. They also have the opportunity to meet with our CFO, Robin Ransom, to talk about how to build a personal budget and begin to build personal wealth.
We believe college internships should be more than just grabbing coffee for the office and checking off a requirement for school. They are investments in your future and provide invaluable experiences, industry insight, networking opportunities, and skill development. We’re glad to be able to provide this experience to college students and look forward to our next summer internship!
