Ten Million Steps for Charity

For the fourth consecutive year, Dominion Payroll’ employees are walking for their favorite charities in the Annual DP Charity Walk Off!

If you are unaware, the Walk Off is an event to remind associates that a healthy lifestyle equates into a happier, more productive day at the office. The entire staff gets equipped with pedometers that track the number of steps they take and measure their total distance across a 5-week competition to the top, where a charity represented by one of our six teams receives a donation on behalf of DP.

This year, the office has 34 participants shooting for a goal of 59,000 steps a week per person – the corporate goal being TEN MILLION steps! Every Friday, our walkers submit their number to team captains during a company lunch and measure where their competition stands. As you can imagine, there’s some friendly “verbal warfare” involved, as not only are there bragging rights in play but charities that benefit from the race.

“We’ve chosen six non-profits that deserve a little boost, especially during the holiday season,” said Dave Gallagher, CEO at DP. “Whether it’s a business relationship or it’s a charity that one of our team members holds dear to them, we take pride in connecting healthy choices and team camaraderie to special causes like these.”

Those organizations involved are the Maymont Foundation, Feedmore, Comfort Zone Park, the Children’s Museum of Richmond, St. Joseph’s Villa, and the Special Olympics of Virginia.

We’ve been delighted to find over the years that so many other organizations are leading by example and starting wellness programs of their own, and we invite you to do the same!
