You’ve Found the Right Candidate…Now What?

You finally found the right candidate for that open position you have been searching for, but now what?

Hiring a new employee often includes paperwork that can be overwhelming, tedious, and sometimes, inefficient. There’s back and forth between different departments along with tasks, forms, and training that needs to get done. It’s definitely a lot to tackle while also making sure you are staying on task with your own work that needs to be completed.

Hopefully, your organizational skills are excellent, otherwise, keeping track of all the different forms and documentation may feel overwhelming. With all that exhausting effort put into onboarding your new employee, you may feel burnt out before they are even able to start their first week, leading to a negative experience for you both. In fact, a poor onboarding experience for an employee can lead to lower productivity, increased turnover, and disengaged employees.

So, how do you fix it to avoid these issues?

First, it’s important to remember that the onboarding experience is a great first impression of how the organization and employee will connect in a meaningful way. New hires will get to learn how they fit into the organization, how their role impacts the business, and what is expected of them.

Make sure you are providing proper training and learning opportunities so that your new hire can perform at their best with all of your resources being readily available and easily accessible.

Keep in mind, your new hire may feel overwhelmed or stressed during the onboarding process – they are meeting lots of new people and being taught new processes so be sure to give a reasonable amount of time for training. Even consider spacing out your training so that the employee can retain what they are learning. This will decrease the chances of needing to relearn it later and they will feel more confident moving forward.
